In April 2016, Senator Peter Harder entered the Red Chamber for the first time as the Government Representative in the Senate, tasked with shepherding Government legislation through the Senate and supporting modernization efforts for a more independent, accountable and transparent institution. Unlike previous Senators who filled his role, under the title Government Leader in the Senate, he was not affiliated with a political party.
