Senator LaBoucane-Benson named Legislative Deputy
She has served as Government Liaison since January 2020.
Alberta Senator Patti LaBoucane-Benson has been appointed as Legislative Deputy to the Government Representative in the Senate.
In this new role, she will be focused on working with other Senate leaderships to structure debate in the Senate chamber on a daily basis, including managing and moving Government procedural motions.
She takes over the role from Senator Raymonde Gagné, who has been appointed as the new Speaker of the Senate.
“I am honoured to take on this new role – knowing I have big shoes to fill,” said Senator LaBoucane-Benson.
“I have had the pleasure of working alongside Senator Gagné in the Government team for more than three years. I will lead from her example as a dedicated, collaborative and supportive colleague and friend.”
Senator LaBoucane-Benson will continue in the role of Government Liaison on an interim basis until the position is filled. The role is focused on outreach to help ensure that Senators from all groups receive information on Government legislation.
