5 Government bills become law
One new law includes Senate amendments.
Legislation to enshrine into law the principles of a Canada-wide early learning and child care system was among five Government bills that received Royal Assent this week.
The following bills are now law:
Bill C-34, known as the National Security Review of Investments Modernization Act, aims to modernize the Investment Canada Act.
Bill C-35 sets out the Government’s vision for a Canada-wide early learning and child care system, as well as a commitment to maintaining long-term funding to the provinces and Indigenous peoples. A Senate amendment to emphasize the need for funding to daycares in official language minority communities was accepted by the House of Commons.
Bill C-57 implements the Canada–Ukraine Free Trade Agreement from September 22, 2023.
Bill C-67 grants funds towards defraying charges and expenses of the federal public administration for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024.
Bill C-68 grants funds towards defraying charges and expenses of the federal public administration for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.
Additionally, Bill S-15, to ban the captivity of elephants and great apes in Canada, except in limited circumstances, advanced committee for further study after completing second reading in the Senate. Find out more here.
