A royal visit: King Charles III and Queen Camilla in the Senate
King Charles III delivered the Speech from the Throne to open the 45th Parliament.
The opening of the 45th Parliament was marked with an historic Speech From the Throne delivered by King Charles III on May 27, 2025.
While the Governor General of Canada traditionally opens Parliament, Queen Elizabeth ll delivered the Speech From the Throne in 1957, and again in 1977.
