Senator Harder to tour Ontario college launching cannabis production program
Sen. Harder will hold media availability at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus of Niagara College on Friday.
Senator Peter Harder, the Government Representative in the Senate, will see how educational institutions are preparing for the legalization of cannabis during a Friday visit to Niagara College, which is set to launch a program in commercial cannabis production this fall.
Last week, the Senate agreed to a legislative timetable that would lead to a third reading vote on the Cannabis Act by June 7 at the latest. The bill arrived in the Senate on Nov. 28 and remains at second reading.
Students in the Commercial Cannabis Production (Graduate Certificate) program at Niagara College will learn how to create production plans, assess crop health and implement nutrients to the crops, all within a highly specialized process with strict government regulations.
Sen. Harder said forward-thinking institutions like Niagara College will help ensure a smooth transition to the new regime of regulated cannabis.
Sen. Harder will hold media availability at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus of Niagara College. College officials will also be in attendance to answer questions about the new program.
