New laws in the first session of the 43rd Parliament

List of Government bills that became law in the first session of the 43rd Parliament.

A bill must be adopted in the same form in both the House of Commons and the Senate before it can receive Royal Assent, the last step in the legislative process that allows a bill to become law.

The following is a list of Government bills and the date each bill received Royal Assent in the first session of the 43rd Parliament (from December 5, 2019 to August 18, 2020).

Bill C-2, Appropriation Act No. 3, 2019-20 (December 12, 2019)

  • This legislation grants funds for the federal public administration.

Bill C-4, Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement Implementation Act (March 13, 2020)

  • This legislation implements the new North American free trade agreement.

Bill C-10, Appropriation Act No. 4, 2019-20 (March 13, 2020)

  • This legislation grants funds for the federal public administration for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2020.

Bill C-11, Appropriation Act No. 1, 2020-21 (March 13, 2020)

  • This legislation grants funds for the federal public administration for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2021.

Bill C-12, An Act to amend the Financial Administration Act (special warrant) (March 13, 2020)

  • This legislation offers the Government added flexibility while Parliament is not sitting should funding be required in regards to COVID-19.

Bill C-13, COVID-19 Emergency Response Act (March 25, 2020)
